A narrow bar of dark lacquer, close to black with a warm brown depth, hangs from a small gold ball stud. Flakes of gold leaf, some paler and silvery in tone, drift down the bar and gather more thickly towards the lower end. The two bars are not identical: one carries a denser drift of flakes than the other.

Each bar is built on a sandalwood core and finished in natural lacquer, with the leaf laid by hand. The studs are 14k gold. Each piece varies a little in colour and pattern, and photographs are for reference.

The story
Each coat of natural lacquer must cure before the next is laid, so a lacquer surface is built slowly and set hard. On these slender sandalwood bars the maker scatters gold leaf by hand, letting the flakes drift down the near-black lacquer and gather towards the lower end, one bar more thickly than the other. They hang from small 14k gold ball studs and fall in a narrow line beside the neck. The scatter is never repeated, so no two pairs are quite alike.

Technique
Gold leaf is scattered by hand over natural lacquer on a slender sandalwood core, then sealed and polished. The bars hang from 14k gold ball studs.
Care
Keep dry and away from perfume, lotion and heat. Do not leave in strong sunlight. Wipe with a soft dry cloth and store alone in its pouch.
