Two round beads hang one above the other from a slim gold ear hook. The upper bead is covered in gold leaf, with faint creases where the leaf was pressed down, and the larger lower bead is a deep wine-red lacquer flecked with brighter red. A small gold-tone cap and end bead finish the base of each earring.

Each bead is built on a sandalwood core and coated in natural lacquer, and the upper bead is then laid with gold leaf by hand. The ear hooks are 14k gold. Because the lacquer and leaf settle differently on every bead, each piece varies a little in colour and pattern, and photographs are for reference.

The story
The upper bead is laid with gold leaf by hand, leaving faint creases where the leaf was pressed down, and the larger lower bead is finished in deep wine-red lacquer flecked with brighter red. Both are built up in natural lacquer on sandalwood cores, so each carries its own small variations and is unique. They hang one above the other from a slim 14k gold ear hook, a drop of about 3 cm that moves as you wear it.

Technique
Natural lacquer is built up on sandalwood cores; the upper bead is laid with gold leaf by hand and the lower bead is finished in red-flecked lacquer. The pair hang from 14k gold ear hooks.
Care
Keep dry and away from perfume, lotion and heat. Do not leave in strong sunlight. Wipe with a soft dry cloth and store alone in its pouch.
