A small gold ball stud holds an openwork filigree flower set with small clear stones, and below it hangs a round bead covered in gold leaf. The leaf is laid unevenly, so dark natural lacquer shows through in soft patches across the surface, and a little gold flower cap finishes the base of each bead.

Each bead is built on a carved sandalwood core, coated in natural lacquer and then laid with gold leaf by hand. The studs are 14k gold. Because the leaf breaks differently on every bead, each piece varies a little in colour and pattern, and photographs are for reference.

The story
Gold leaf is laid by hand over natural lacquer on a carved sandalwood core, and where the fine leaf breaks, the dark lacquer beneath shows through in soft patches. The leaf breaks differently on every bead, so each one is unique. It hangs below an openwork filigree flower set with small clear stones on a 14k gold ball stud, a light drop of about 3.5 g for day or evening.

Technique
Gold leaf is laid by hand over natural lacquer on a carved sandalwood core, leaving the dark lacquer visible where the leaf breaks. The lacquered beads hang from 14k gold ball studs.
Care
Keep dry and away from perfume, lotion and heat. Do not leave in strong sunlight. Wipe with a soft dry cloth and store alone in its pouch.
