A gold flower-shaped stud set with clear stones holds a round bead in lilac and violet lacquer. The marbled surface is traced with gold-coloured flecks and set with small pieces of mother-of-pearl that catch the light, and a little gold flower cap and end bead finish the base.

Each bead is built on a sandalwood core. Layers of coloured natural lacquer are laid over it, fragments of mother-of-pearl are inlaid, and the surface is polished back by hand to reveal the xipi pattern. The findings are 14k gold. Because the pattern comes from polishing by hand, each piece varies a little in colour and pattern, and photographs are for reference.

The story
Lilac and violet lacquer is layered over a sandalwood core, fragments of mother-of-pearl are inlaid, and the bead is polished back by hand until the xipi marbling comes through with its gold-coloured flecks. The polishing decides where each colour surfaces, so each bead is unique. It hangs from a gold flower stud set with clear stones, a short drop of about 2.5 cm that sits close to the ear.

Technique
Coloured natural lacquer is layered over a sandalwood core, inlaid with mother-of-pearl and polished back by hand to a marbled xipi pattern. The bead hangs from a flower-shaped stud with 14k gold findings.
Care
Keep dry and away from perfume, lotion and heat. Do not leave in strong sunlight. Wipe with a soft dry cloth and store alone in its pouch.
