Two long, slender leaf shapes in deep black lacquer, scattered with small fragments of duck eggshell in ivory and soft amber tones. The fragments gather more closely towards the centre and thin out towards the points. Each leaf hangs from a small gold-tone ball stud on a fine ring, so it moves a little as you wear it.

Each leaf is carved from sandalwood, then built up in natural lacquer. The eggshell is broken by hand and set piece by piece into the lacquer before the surface is finished. Because the work is done by hand, each pair varies a little in colour and pattern, and the photographs are for reference.

The story
In eggshell inlay, duck eggshell is broken by hand into small fragments and set piece by piece into natural lacquer before the surface is finished smooth. On these long black leaves, carved from sandalwood, the ivory and soft amber fragments gather towards the centre and thin out towards the points, and no two leaves are laid alike. They hang from small gold-tone ball studs on a fine ring, long enough to show against the neck at about 5.5 cm.

Technique
Eggshell inlay in natural lacquer: fragments of duck eggshell are set by hand into layers of natural lacquer built over a carved sandalwood core, then the surface is finished smooth.
Care
Keep dry and away from perfume, lotion and heat. Do not leave in strong sunlight. Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Store alone in its pouch.
