A small double-gourd bead in mint-green lacquer hangs from a gold-tone rose stud set with clear stones. The lacquer is swirled with soft peach and fine gold-coloured veins, and the bead is finished with a small gold cap and ball at the base.

Layers of coloured natural lacquer are built up by hand over a carved sandalwood core, then polished back to reveal the marbled xipi pattern. Each piece is handmade, so colour and pattern vary a little from pair to pair, and photographs are for reference.

The story
Xipi lacquer is built from many thin coats of coloured natural lacquer that are later polished back, so the colours surface as swirls. This piece is shaped as a double gourd, and the maker works the mint-green lacquer over a carved sandalwood core until soft peach and fine gold veins show through. It hangs from a small gold rose stud set with clear stones, a short drop that sits neatly at the ear.

Keep dry and away from perfume, lotion and heat. Do not leave in strong sunlight. Wipe with a soft dry cloth and store alone in its pouch.
