A round bead of deep red xipi lacquer hangs from a ribbed gold starburst flower set with a single clear stone at its centre, worn as a post stud. The red is veined with brighter red and marked with dark, iridescent patches, and a small gold cap finishes the base of each bead.

Layers of coloured natural lacquer are built up by hand over a sandalwood core, then polished back to reveal the marbled xipi pattern. Because each piece is made by hand, colour and pattern vary a little from pair to pair, and photographs are for reference.

The story
Xipi lacquer is made by applying many coats of coloured natural lacquer and polishing through them to show a marbled pattern. On this deep red sphere, worked over a sandalwood core, the maker brings up veins of brighter red and dark, iridescent patches. It hangs from a ribbed gold starburst stud with a single clear stone at its centre, a pair with some presence at the ear.
