A round bead of turquoise xipi lacquer hangs from a small gold seashell, finely ribbed along its spiral, that sits at the ear as a post stud. The lacquer is marbled with soft veins of brown and gold, and a small gold cap finishes the base of each bead.

Layers of coloured natural lacquer are built up by hand over a sandalwood core, then polished back to reveal the marbled xipi pattern. Because each piece is made by hand, colour and pattern vary a little from pair to pair, and photographs are for reference.

The story
Xipi lacquer takes its marbling from many layers of coloured natural lacquer, applied one at a time and then polished back by hand. On this turquoise sphere, worked over a sandalwood core, the polishing draws out soft veins of brown and gold. It hangs from a small ribbed gold seashell that sits at the lobe as a post stud, with a gold cap at the base.
